STYC Meets are held three or 4 per times per school year. They serve to bring members together to continue work on current initiatives and explore new ones.
Group work sessions were held daylong on a Saturday. Weslaco High School is a wonderful location, and they have has been super host in providing space for STYC to hold work sessions.
The onset of pandemic has brought on change.
One change is the addition of the iCharla Podcast Show.
This platform is available for STYC members and alumni to use, to collaborate, host podcasts, exchange ideas, explore solutions, do presentations, and share updates.
Another addition is the production of videos to promote current initiatives: iSol and Life Skills, and explore new ones.
Eighteen high school students came together, it was the first gathering and they were the first members. They laid the groundwork for STYC, they also drafted three public policy proposals. Later on the three merged into one known as iSol.
In 2015 iSol is reflected in HB3467 in the 84th Texas legislative session. In the 85th Texas session, 2017, iSol is reflected in HB3813.
The core concept this group established remains. That it be member led.

April 2015
Sixteen South Texas high school students gathered in Austin 7-9 April 2015. All members of STYC.
In teams of 3 to 4 in each they visited 40 capitol offices, including all South Texas Representatives, members of education committees, House Speaker, Lt. Governor, and a scheduled visit with Texas First Lady, Cecilia Abbott.
